Geraldo Rivera vs. Dan Savage Over Coverage Of Bristol Palins Pregnancy: No Points For Guessing Who Won

Bristol Palin, in a none too enthusiastic blog post, recently announced that she was pregnant with child number two, while still single. This shouldnt and wouldnt be news, except for the fact that Palin has been a champion for abstinence-only sex education, making money from speaking at various venues.

Shes also an example of its successes, too.

In a recent column, Dan Savage was not keenly aware of just this, but also of the racist hypocrisy that surrounds it. He called out Fox News, noting that if it had been one of President Obamas girls, there would be wall-to-wall coverage on President Obamas failure as a parent and earned the ire of Geraldo Rivera in the process.

Its Okay If Youre A Republican

In his blog post, Savage attacked Bristol for her hypocrisy, entitling the piece Screw as I say, not as I screw. He dredged up an abstinence-only PSA that she did, and recommended birth control for right after your next child is born into a fatherless home.

The real core of the piece, however, was a shot across the bow at Fox News:

If Bristol Palins last name was Obama the whole Hee Haw gang at Fox News would spend half of every day for the next nine months telling us that Bristol Obama has terrible parentsMaybe Michelle should be less concerned with what your kids are eating and more concerned with what her kids are doing!and the half of the day pretending to fret over the terrible example that Bristol Obama was setting for other African American women and girls. But unplanned pregnancies and kids in fatherless homes and two different children by two different fathers? IOIYAR.

Not just unplanned pregnancies, but also a family brawl, a love affair with fire arms and violence, and, yes, goofy names like Tripp and Trig. If the Palins were black, racists would be using them as proof of the failures of black culture.

But theyre not. Theyre white, theyre the Republican darlings, and theyre the greatest example of do as I say, not as a I do.

Geraldo Strikes Back

Savages piece touched a nerve, and Fox News Geraldo Rivera dove into action to protect his network with the following tweet:

@Mediaite fxck you jerk off. Fox news doesnt have a reaction to anyones pregnancy

Geraldo Rivera (@GeraldoRivera) June 26, 2015

Its some creative censoring. Savages response was more amused than upset:

Dan Savage Tweet

Its xed out, just like Foxs integrity.

Anyone else remember the Republican National Convention where Tanya Tucker, who had just had her second child while single, sang the National anthem just before Dan Potatoe Quayle gave a speech condemning a fictional character, Murphy Brown, for promoting an immoral lifestyle by becoming pregnant while single? Its in their genes, excedpt when its out of their jeans.

I do remember that. I also remember that Quayles wife pretty much destoryed his political career when she stated that if her daughter was raped and became pregnant then you damn betcha thered be an abortion.

Actually, Dan waffled on question….his answer was that theyd talk about the situation and make the best decision for his daughter…..Marilyn said her daughter would have the baby……

The Republicans/Conservative/Tea Party, mantra seem to suggest. Do as I say not as I do,lets not forget that three of the Republicans Presidential Candidates entering the race. One is under indictment and two others are under suspicion of unethical dealings

Thank you Dan Savage! I dont think anyone could have put it more succinctly. One of the big problems with republican conservatives is that they almost never EVER own their short comings. Sure, a few of them have finally came to grips with what a colossal nincompoop sarah palin was. But still, they quietly turned their back on her after years and years of carrying that idiot on their shoulders like some kind of republican icon. Im sure theyll be defending this obtuse daughter of hers for quite a while yet. Remember John Edwards? The Democratic party and liberals in general couldnt have run further away from that unconscionable excuse for a human being. Generally speaking, when theres a turd bobbing around in their water, the Democrats empty the pool and scrub it out. Republicans tend to just keep swimming in it and let it float by without a second thought. In many cases, theyll all join hands and circle around that turd in celebration like some crazy synchronized swimming routine.

Yep, and Remember four leaders of the Republican party that sat in judgement of Bill Clinton all had sordid affairs including Dennis Hastert the gay child molester.

Gerry Rivers, you were once a pertinent and an effective journalist, thats no longer the case. You sold out, and now pander to the lowest common denominator, i.e. viewers of Fox News. How can you disrespect yourself like you do these days? Was it the money or did you drink the Kool-aide too?

    • SockMonkey

Most immature and ridiculous comeback ever, Rivera. Seriously, that is hysterical. You call yourself a journalist? Really? Foxs slogan should be, We Own Hypocrisy
