Pulled From The GOP Playbook: Israeli PM Says Palestinian-led Boycotts Remind Him Of Nazi Germany

The Nazis may well have been a once-in-a-species event. While there are others whose beliefs rhyme, the evil that the Third Reich exacted on our own species may well have been a watershed moment that woke us up to the reality of our all-too-human nature.

As a result, the only thing like Nazis, to most thinking adults, are the Nazis.

The GOP are not thinking adults, however. And neither is GOP hero and Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, who has borrowed this particular tactic on Monday when he compared a Palestinian-led campaign to boycott Israeli goods to Nazi Germanys campaign against Jewish people.

Bibis Nazi Tourettes

Lewis Black originally coined the term to describe Fox News Glenn Beck, but Nazi Tourettes can apply to any particular member of the GOP. Its a perennial thing; there is always at least one Republican somewhere who is willing to compare something they disagree with to the Nazis.

Its not a particularly mature tactic. So its rather baffling that of all the tactics Benjamin Netanyahu couldve lifted from the right-wings playbook, it was this one he chose.

During a meeting with Polish Foreign Minister Grzegorz Schetyna, Netanyahu brought up the specter of Jewish defamation on Polish soil during the height of Nazi Europe.

The attacks on the Jews were always preceded by the slander of the Jews. What was done to the Jewish people then is being done to the Jewish state now, the Israeli PM said. In those days we could do nothing. Today we can speak our mind, hold our ground. Were going to do both.

PM Netanyahu was discussing the Palestinian-led Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) campaign, which is trying to put various politic and economic pressures on Israel for Israels occupation of Palestinian territories.

The goal is to repeat the successful campaign that brought about the end of apartheid in South Africa.

In response, Netanyahus government launched a counter-offensive, both media and diplomatic, and has sought to portray themselves as victims by accosted by forces that want to destroy Israel.

We will continue to resist boycotts, defamations, de-legitimisation, Netanyahu said on Monday, proving he has no idea what any of those words mean.
